Choosing travertine is only half the decision — the finish you select changes how the stone looks, feels and performs. Here is a clear breakdown of the four finishes we supply and exactly where each one belongs.
Honed travertine — the 2026 standard
Honed travertine is cut flat and matte, with no reflective sheen. It reads contemporary, forgives scratches and hides water spots, making it ideal for bathroom floors, kitchen surrounds and high-traffic areas. This is the finish most 2026 projects ask for first.
Polished travertine — use with care
Polished travertine has a glossy, reflective face. It can look beautiful in a classic powder room, but across large floors it can read dated and shows wear faster. We generally recommend reserving polish for vertical, low-traffic feature walls.
Unfilled vs filled
Unfilled travertine leaves the stone’s natural voids open — a tactile, architectural look perfect for dry feature walls and entrances. Filled (resin or grout) travertine gives a smoother, more conventional surface suited to wet areas. Both Iran Travertine and Tukey Travertine are available in either treatment.
Brushed and vein-cut
Brushed travertine reveals the stone’s directional grain with a soft matte read — the most modern finish available. Vein-cut (slicing along the stone’s layers) produces linear striations that design firms love for feature walls. Ask about Moca Cream vein-cut for a clean, contemporary line.
